Read this morning it's about Ba when he left us for Newcastle

As it was a free transfer that would likely explain why Newcastle had people arrested and we didn';t

I always thought that all transfers should be through a national or international transfer board. If club A wants a player from Club B they ask the board who approaches club B. If Club B agrees the price is agreed and club A pays after the player agrees personal terms. the players agent only gets a fee from his client, the player cos he just got a better deal and clubs don't get messed around and waste money on agents fees. The price and the deal is recored with the transfer board and can be confirmed fro HMRC if needed.

Less chance of any bungs or crooked deals

Willtell "If it is a French investigation into Marseille and other French clubs, I expect HMR&C are just helping get the corresponding documentation from the buying clubs. EG, French club says they got £6m for Payet and WH accounts say they paid £10.75m."

If that were the case why are HMRC specifically saying it's an investigation into PAYE/NIC fraud?

What we do or don't pay in transfer fees to another club, has nothing to do with those taxes.

Re: West Ham's London Stadium - raided
The finances for all transfers should go through a central clearing house and no payments should be allowed to be made outside of that.

Let's say we agree with Marseille that they will accept £10m for Pierre X but we want to give an agent £1m for sorting the deal as do they to another agent on the other side.
We pay in £11m and that is disbursed to our agent , their agent and Marseille as £1m, ,£1m & £9m.
All these payments are publically disclosed
Any payments outside this results in a 5 year ban from making any signings
Any payments to or on behalf of a player outside their publically lodged contract results in 10 times the amount being added to their FFP amount for each of the next 10 seasons.
So if your FFP limit is £100m and you make an illegal payment of £2m the limit goes down to £80m until 2027.

rich people trying to avoid tax SHOCK!

Re: West Ham's London Stadium - raided
There is talk of a mismatch between what the club paid out for Payet and what Marseille have declared they received. The French are bound to be seeking the audit trail for these monies because Marseille have previous.

OTB....that is what is quite worrying in all this, I remember reading an article in Daily Mail documenting what each club had paid in agents fees. Must say I was flabbergasted to see our inflated numbers ...especially when referenced against the paucity of quality we bought in.

Northern Sold 11:22 Thu Apr 27
Re: West Ham's London Stadium - raided
Hardly a secret then is it the OTB?? Well unless we say.... Ere' you are Payet.... here's a very secret extra £2m... oh by the way... don't tell the taxman... Shushhhhhhhhh...

Re: West Ham's London Stadium - raided
I bet we are. But I also bet that just about every Club is.

That said, as someone pointed out - if we make a payment to a player/agent, you'd assume it'd be done to a company, so isn't it on them to pay their tax? Perhaps that's what they're looking at - what we've paid out.

Re: West Ham's London Stadium - raided
from the beeb

"The British authorities suspect secret payments may have been made to benefit certain players, their agents or third parties, allowing them to avoid paying tax on the income, or making social security payments," said a statement from the French Prosecutor's office."

Re: West Ham's London Stadium - raided
Thinking about it this morning- I wonder if this is linked to the extraordinary amount of French players Newcastle bought and sold over the last few years?

Wouldn't exactly be a surprise if something shady was going on there. Probably explains why their man was nabbed.

I'd hope that we're only involved so our records can be compared to Marseille's to see if THEY'VE been misreporting things.

Cn someone explain to us what a `secret player payment' is??

Thanks awfully...

Nothing to see here Jog on .

It is so pathetic how fans of other clubs get such an erection whenever West ham are touched with any difficulty, they go a bit mental, sad really.
Although with respect some of us get a kick out of it too which I just do not understand.

West Ham are the bigger more high profile club that's why we are getting the headlines. Gutted Beardsley?

Wishful thinking there.

In which case WH have probably done nothing wrong and are squeaky clean. But we all hate G&S+B at the moment so go ahead and make them guilty before you know the facts. It's the WH way...

As usual, we've probably been caught because we're worse at covering our tracks than other clubs.
